Dear Alum,
Bombay International School, your alma mater is indeed a very special
school. It started with a dream: that education was more than letters
on a page; that the development of a child involved more than the
giving of notes and taking of exams; that there can be no education
without the inculcation of a moral and ethical standard, an awareness
of one’s surroundings, an ability to stand up against injustice. For
almost fifty years we have walked with this dream and the school is
its living fulfillment. As we approach our Silver Jubilee Year in
2012, we are proud that we have been successful in keeping alive the
vision that is “our school”.
In recent years the school has acquired two tenanted spaces within
Gilbert Building. This acquisition could not have been more timely in
light of the efforts being made by the school to supplement the
existing academic agenda. Starting 2007, the school has adopted the
Cambridge curriculum and we are now in a position to offer students
the choice of either ICSE or IGCSE as an option for Grade X within the
existing premises.
I am pleased to inform you that BIS is in the process of starting a
High School (Std. XI and XII) offering the International Baccalaureate
(IB) Diploma Programme which will commence in June 2011. We are now a
candidate school awaiting authorization.
The funding required to finance the High School project has been
substantial, amounting to approximately Rs. 4.5 crore. The parents of
BIS Association have contributed generously and have provided the seed
capital which has gone towards acquiring the IB affiliation and
permissions (Rs. 15 lac), academic resources and teacher training (Rs.
50 lac), refurbishing the existing school building (Rs. 1.4 crore) and
pre-start up salaries of IB staff and administration (Rs.75 lac). In
spite of their generous support, we find that we have a shortfall to
execute the project by 2011, with the highest possible standards
expected of a school of our pedigree and repute. We require these
funds to acquire and refurbish additional space within or near Gilbert
building.
In view of the above, BIS is now appealing to the Alumni to raise an
amount of Rs. 1.5 crores within the next few months to meet the
shortfall and Rs.3 crore over the next two years to enable further
expansion of the infra structure.
I would like to appeal to each one of you to consider making a
contribution, as it is the need of the moment if we have to press
ahead with our plans and preserve the heritage of our unique and
wonderful school.
